At an Inflection Point
In June 2025, my entire team and I received notification of our “affected status” under Work Force Adjustment (WFA)—the government’s euphemistic term for managing layoffs in public service. Despite the clinical language, the human impact is unmistakable.
I’m not alone in this experience. Many fellow public servants and friends have been similarly affected. When we meet, there’s an unspoken question in our eyes: Where do we go from here?
After five years in public service, I find myself at a career inflection point—a moment that demands both reflection and decisive action.
If it be now, ’tis not to come: if it be not to come, it will be now: if it be not now, yet it will come: the readiness is all.
Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 2
This transition presents a delicate balancing act between pragmatism and purpose. On one hand, I must consider what’s necessary to provide financial stability and sustainable support for my family. On the other, I’m compelled to ask what meaningful work I want to pursue next—work that aligns with my values and leverages my accumulated expertise.
Shakespeare’s Hamlet reminds us that timing is everything, but readiness is what matters most. I’m ready for what comes next.
And I need your support to make it happen.
