The biggest problem in organizations of today is not poor management, toxic culture or incompetent leadership.
The biggest problem is the good bullshit derived from them.
“Good” because it’s so appealing that we want to believe, bullshit because eventually it neither works nor helps.
Good bullshit is often embedded in the lores of an organization.
The design thinking lores often include good bullshit about how it ignites innovation, or that it’s a simple five-step process.
The Agile lores often include good bullshit about how it saves cost of a single project, or that it gets things done faster through an iterative process.
The accessibility lores often include good bullshit about how a single solution meets all the accessibility requirements, or how one approach has to accommodate all accessibility needs.
The leadership lores often include good bullshit about survivorship bias, or how an individual leader can change everything.
The culture lores often include good bullshit about apolitical work environment and apolitical intentions.
The transformation lores often include good bullshit about how digital technologies leads to innovation, or how goodwill alone can handle organizational change.
What kind of good bullshit have you heard?
